Happy Birthday in heaven to Grandmother Gladys! I still miss you 💖
Today we grudgingly left Valdez and drove about 330 miles to Bird Creek Campground, just south of Anchorage. It was rainy and foggy and still cold when we left, then it cleared up a little bit and got warmer, then turned cool again. It was a long day of driving. No pictures today, sorry.
We stopped by the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park Visitor Center since it was closed on our way down to Valdez. We then drove north to Glenallen, where we stopped for fuel and then turned west toward Anchorage.
The scenery changed drastically several times as we changed elevations and went further west. We passed through Glacier View, which is where we will return with Mary and Jordan for a helicopter glacier tour. It was just an incredible and gorgeous drive, even with rain and clouds.
We didn't see much wildlife today, but we could have missed anything along the roadway since we were so mesmerized by the views.
We made a long stop at Walmart in Anchorage to get groceries, supplies for an oil change, and new fishing gear to replace what we broke snagging for salmon!
We were so tired that we just put things away and went to bed as soon as we got settled at the campspot. We are very excited to see more!
Our favorite place names today: Goober Lake; Red Rooster Rd; Weiner Lake; Chickaloon River
