Today we stayed in Haines, and visited Chilkoot State Park again and the fish weir where the Salmon are counted as they pass through (Grizzlies can be very nearby).
Saw lots of people out fishing (Saturday).
We also ventured out to Chilkat State Park which we really enjoyed. We saw some very playful "ocean puppies", which we believe were harbor seals, playing far out on the rocks.
It was very chilly and windy and cloudy.
We were too late for breakfast at the Bamboo Room (described as an American diner with a “best seafood dive” reputation)... bummer, maybe next time. The menu looked really delicious.
We looked again for bears, but.... none. Again. Soon, we hope.
We saw and photographed several bald eagles,
and had fun watching two of them sharing a fresh fish dinner.
We chose another free-of-charge waterside pullout as our spot for the night, with a beautiful view of the water and snow covered mountains.
Favorite street name: Soap Suds Alley
Favorite birds: Surf scoters (so many), spotted sandpiper, bald eagles, blue heron
