Day 29 - Thursday 7/16/2026 - Tok to Squirrel Creek

Today we drove about 180 miles, with beautiful sunny blue skies and temps in the high 60s for most of the day.

We left our beautiful spot off the road outside Tok, and headed into town for some groceries, fuel and other supplies at Three Bears Alaska.  We saw a dust devil (whirlwind) cross the parking lot and street.  It was pretty cool.

It has been a while since we have had a big selection of things to choose from.

We stopped by the Tetlin National Wildlife Preserve HQ in Tok,

then headed on the Tok Cutoff toward Valdez. We were awed by the snow-covered mountains and all the beautiful lakes and rivers once again.

The roads were in much better condition, with only a few places where it was like riding a roller coaster.  (NOTE FOR OLIVIA:  Uncle Mike yelled Weeeeeeee every time we went over a hill, and he kept saying how much fun Princess Olivia would have 👸).

Wildlife today included trumpeter swans, a bald eagle, a giant moose (really bad photo alert),

a coyote and a fox. We're still not sure what animal this sign is alerting us of (Caribou most likely?):

Favorite street names: Midnight Sun Rd; Moose Nugget Rd.

Most unique camper today:

Tonight's dinner was roasted chicken and kale salad from today's grocery run, and freeze-dried homemade mashed potatoes.  Yum!

Tonight we are staying in a little turnoff near Squirrel Creek State Recreation Site.
