We have arrived in Valdez, Alaska!
Today we drove about 70 miles from Squirrel Creek to Valdez. "Hey Alabama!..., you're trespassing" was the first thing we heard this morning in our awesome private tucked away secluded camp spot which we thought was public land (Oops). It was almost 9am so we quickly loaded up and headed down the road a bit to prepare for our day. When boondocking I guess you always know that eventually that knock is coming - at least it was very friendly this time. 😳
The weather was misty and foggy and cool - and instead of our usual seeing mountains all around us, today we are IN the mountains! Gorgeous green, lush mountains,
snow-covered mountains,
rivers, lakes, streams, waterfalls,
We parked along the side of the road at the Solomon Gulch Hatchery for a while this afternoon with several other vehicles and campers with an excellent view of the river and the beautiful cloud covered mountains across from it.
There were lots of people fishing, or actually snagging, for salmon (since salmon don't actively feed once they enter back into the rivers) along the rocky shoreline.
They were very entertaining.
We decided that we are going to try to join the fishing fun tomorrow (at high tide), so we went into town and bought some tackle to add to our own fishing gear at Valdez Outfitters.
We'll get licenses online tonight and then try our hands at landing our own fresh salmon dinner.
Later we drove out past the airport to glacier lake to check it out, and to find a good boondocking spot for the night,
