ER150 - EarthRoamer Adventures: Day 28 - Wednesday 7/15/2026

Today we traveled about 150 really long, slow miles from Lake Creek Campground in the Yukon to near Tok, Alaska. The weather was cool and sometimes cloudy, sometimes sunny, sometimes light rain. The roads were really bad until we crossed into Alaska, then they were just sporatically bad 😵. I'm glad it's not my job to keep the roads driveable in either country between Destruction Bay and Tok!

While going through one of the construction zones early on, we encountered our first sister EarthRoamer of the trip! Shout out to Lukas and Emily! These are the photos we took when passing each other 😄.

Before leaving Canada we stopped in Beaver Creek to grab some lunch and give the kitties a break. We were getting a little hungy and ER150 was getting a bit dusty from the gravel road driving 👀. IDA's Cafe provided a nice place to stop and rest and grab some food (a cheesburger, and BLT) - yum! Met a nice couple traveling from Ohio, we got some good tips on what to do in Valdez & more - thank you.

We passed again back into Alaska

and were welcomed by a nice Border Agent who told us about some things to do in Tok. Shout out to you! Thanks for the tips! Also, Hi to the sweet Fish and Wildlife agent who greeted us and asked if we had any watercraft on board! We had a nice chat.

We entered the Tetlin Wildlife Refuge and it was beautiful!

We stopped at the first visitor center for a National Parks stamp, where the nice Ranger told us about more things to do in Valdez.

Then we stopped again at Deadman Lake Campground in the park for a very short (but nice) hike on the boardwalk trail to the lake. We saw some common goldeneye ducks and a couple of sandhill cranes - what a nice place!

We continued on to a pullout high up off the highway not far from Tok with a view of the mountains beside us (another night of free camping with awesome scenery out our window)

(heart on the map image below). Driving on the rough roads is really tiring, so we are ready for a good night's rest.

At close to 9pm here in Alaska ER150's solar panels are still generating solar power! Below is data captured today (so far) from a Raspberry Pi single board computer I built and programmed a while back to log data from our two (2) ER150 Morningstar Tristar TS-60 MPPT solar controllers which handle the just over 1200 watts of solar mounted to the roof. The stats for today (generated using Home Assistant installed on a separate Raspberry Pi and displayed on a Google Pixel Android tablet):

ER150 is using four (4) brand new LifeLine 255 amp GPL-8DL AGM batteries which Becky and I ordered and installed just before starting this trip. We have chosen not to upgrade to Lithium technology at this time.

And Starlink is working nicely in our camp spot tonight. We won't use it much but it is great to have (Starlink mini mounted to ER150's roof between 2 of the 5 solar panels)! Here is the result of a Starlink Speed Test:
