We left our beautiful spot at Million Dollar Falls Campground and drove 190 miles toward Tok. We saw two bears within the first thirty minutes today! This is the only photo we managed to get...
Those were the only ones we saw all day.
We stopped at Haines Junction for fuel and snacks.
Our vehicle requires lotsa fuel (Canadian dollars and liters),
and has lotsa bolts on the wheels.
We stopped at a little turnout beside a river and had our snack.
When we reached Kluane Lake we stopped for a few pictures.
The road went around the lake and we followed it for a long time. Then we began to climb in altitude and again were among beautiful mountains.
The roads after Haines Junction were a little worse than before, but after we hit Destruction Bay it got really bad.
Because the roads are built on permafrost there is no way to keep up with the maintenance, and there are frost heaves and potholes and washboard surfaces for many miles. Still, the surroundings were incredible.
We just slowed down and took it all in, again switching between towering mountains and beautiful streams and rivers in the valleys. By the time we reached our campground, we were all ready for a break. The kitties said, to quote Uncle Jack, "our jiblets are rattled!"
We are staying tonight at Lake Creek Campground, still in the Yukon.
Favorite road name: Bear Berry Meadow
