Days 18/19 - Sunday and Monday 7/5-6/2026 - Liard Hot Springs BC to Watson Lake Yukon YT

Sunday we drove 130 miles from Liard Hot Springs to Watson Lake in Yukon, YT.  We started the drive by seeing 3 black bears along the road, and we saw 2 momma buffaloes with their little babies

and then a large bull buffalo nearby.

We saw an adult snowshoe hare too (no picture).  It rained a little and was cool, then hot, then cool again.

We stopped at Lucky Lake and hiked a trail through the forest for about 2 miles.  We assumed the sign for "Flying Discs" was for errant Disc Golf discs and not UFO's. :)

There was a beautiful Pacific loon out in the middle of the lake
.

Welcome to Yukon, YT!

We of course added our sticker to the Yukon sign

and then ventured to the Sign Post Forest near Watson Lake.  What a fun stop!  We left an Auburn tag sign which we covered with our stickers.  We also added a few random stickers in the Forest.

We saw numerous signs from Alabama, and lots of others from many countries around the world.

We ended the day at the Watson Lake Campground (Site #45).  It is quiet and peaceful here, and we decided to stay two nights to enjoy this place.

Sunday night's homemade freeze-dried gourmet dinner was beef stroganoff along with homemade freeze-dried peaches on homemade pound cake!  Yummy!

Day 17 - Saturday 7/4/2026 - Liard Hot Springs BC

Happy July 4th!!  Happy 250th Birthday America!  So proud to be an American, land of the FREE and home of the BRAVE 🎉🎇💖!  And Happy Birthday in Heaven to Grandma Charlotte 💟.  We hope you all were able to celebrate with friends and family and lots of barbeque and fireworks!

Last night we attempted to view the Northern Lights from on top of ER150, and we waited until 2am for it to get dark enough, but it never happened.  We will probably have to wait until late August for nights to get dark enough to see them.

Today we enjoyed a quiet day with a trip back to the hot springs to ease some aches from driving for so many days.  On the boardwalk we saw a moose, just munching away on the vegetation in the warm water!

We are in camp spot #29

Tonight's freeze-dried dinner is Joyce's crockpot beef BBQ - yummy!  Even Cleo approved!

Tomorrow we resume our journey, rested and relaxed (maybe).

Day 16 - Friday 7/3/2026 - Raging River Bridge BC to Liard Hot Springs BC

We drove about 77 miles today.  After sleeping down by the river in a van 😂 at the Raging River Bridge, we lazily made our way towards Liard Hot Springs Provincial Park.

The drive past Muncho Lake was unbelievably beautiful.  The water was an amazing color of blue most likely caused by the silt coming off the mountains.

We left our sticker with the others there.

No wildlife to note except this tiny little baby snowshoe hare who was resting on a speed bump at the park entrance (we made sure the little guy made it away safely).

Next was Trout River, which was light blue water running extremely fast and full.

It met with the Liard River, which is huge!  This is the bridge over the Liard River (we have crossed some of the most incredible amazing bridges in Canada).

Just past the river is the Liard River Hot Springs Park, our home for the next two nights.  The camping fee includes unlimited entry into the hot springs.  Woo Hoo!

The hot springs are located in Bear and Wildlife country so we had to enter in/out of the area through an electric fence at designated gates and follow a very nicely constructed boardwalk to our destination.  A caution sign at the gate indicated that a bear had been in the vicinity and seen as recent as the day before yesterday!

Tonight's dinner is pork roast, macaroni and cheese, and roasted broccoli from our homemade freeze-dried stash.  It was so delicious - we are still amazed at how well the freeze-dried meals are working out.

Favorite bird today:  White-throated sparrow

The NOAA Aurora prediction for tonight seems to indicate that if it ever gets dark here, we might see the northern lights!  We will certainly try to find them.  ER150 has a roof hatch above the king size bed area where we can climb out onto the solar panels (which we can walk on).  That will be where we go to watch tonight.

Day 15 - Thursday 7/2/26 - Peace River BC to Racing River Bridge, Northern Rockies BC

Today we drove approximately 188 miles from our campspot in Peace River to the Racing River Bridge.

We stopped at Fort Nelson to get diesel, some more Canadian dollars, and to see the Visitor Center.

The weather was cool and beautiful most of the day, with a storm or two mixed in for good measure.  We crossed Summit Pass - the highest point of the Alaska Highway with breathtaking views of mountains in every direction.  We were so mesmerized that we didn't even take any photos!  We are hoping our rearview mirror dash cam captured plenty of video to add later.

Summit Lake was unbelievably blue and looked so inviting.

There were signs to look out for all kinds of wildlife - sheep, elk, moose, deer.... and we FINALLY saw a moose!  We also saw two bears, a momma and baby elk - UPDATE - they were caribou, or reindeer!, a herd of buffalo, a white-tailed ptarmigan, and 2 sandhill cranes.  We didn't get photos of the bears, and Becky's poor photo of the moose is terrible, but the elk caribou picture is adorable!

We crossed several metal bridges that were interesting.

And we of course stopped at the Tetsa River Lodge for some of their famous cinnamon buns.

We are camped out below the bridge along the Racing River.  Dinner tonight is cinnamon buns 😁.

Day 14 - Wednesday 7/1/26 - Bezanson AB to Peace BC

Happy Canada Day, Eh?! 🎆

Today we drove 318 miles from our campsite at Moody's Crossing near Bezanson, AB, into British Columbia, to the now defunct Prophet River Wayside Provincial Park at Peace River, BC.  It's now really just a pull-off on the Alaska Highway and a nice secluded Boondock camp spot for the night.

Our first stop was in Dawson Creek, BC, at Mile 0 of the Alaska Highway (also known as the Alcan Highway).  We finally made it!

We also stopped at a small Co-op and picked up a few groceries.  We got some Nanaimo bars to try - yum!

What a beautiful drive on the Alaska Highway!  Every turn was more gorgeous than the last, and we went from sun to rain and back again, with unbelievable rainbows making everything seem magical.

Every electronic device we have seems to show a different local time, so we're never really sure what time it is anywhere (but alas it is 5:00 somewhere!).  The sun is still shining and it is now between 10pm and midnight, we believe ⏰.

We saw more signs telling us to watch for moose today, but... still nothing.  Maybe tomorrow.

Favorite sign:  Slippery When Frosty
Favorite road name:  Right At

Favorite bridge name:  Bougie Creek Bridge

Tonight's dinner was homemade freeze-dried chicken noodle soup.  Yum!
